Who are we?

What is an Extended School?

An Extended School offers a range of activities and services, often beyond the school day, e.g. 8am to 6pm or beyond depending on activity or service, to help meet the needs of its pupils, their families, staff and the wider community. To work in partnership to deliver the core offer services.

Extended schools have a key role to play in achieving the Every Child Matters (ECM) outcome and goals set out in the Children’s Plan.

Schools working in partnership are not expected to provide these services alone or necessarily to be delivered on sites, instead we should work in partnership with other schools and agencies including voluntary and community organisations support and signposting existing serves where appropriate.

Schools are expected to consult widely with pupils, families, their own staff and the wider community to identify priorities and needs.
